Why on earth they include McGrath for such a match is beyond me. Surely they should get some of younger players some early practice. Glad to see they are resting Rashid and Bairstow and playing Patterson, Wardlaw and Hannon-Dalby - hopefully one to partner Sidebottom and Bresnan.

They obviously think the batting line-up needs some practice, Mags' inclusion hardly stands out seen as the whole top order v Kent play other than Bairstow. Anyway, this might be a shoot-out between Sayers, Mags and Lyth for the spot alongside Jaques and Root in the top 3 for all we know. Anyone know why Ashraf isn't playing though? If he's just been left out I find that very disappointing...

I had a similar thought about Ashraf, JG. I asked Graham Harcastle via Twitter. There is a 2nd team match so he might be there
And it could be Geoff and it could be John
With a new ball sting in his tail
And it could be me and it could be thee
And it could be the sting in the ale

spinners are confidence players and I would have picked Rashid (and rafiq) for this game so he has some practice and hopefully some wickets so he can be more confidnet for the Essex game.

Will the 2nd XI game provide stiffer oppo than Leeds/Bradford Uni?

They undoubtedly would provide stronger opposition than Bradford Uni, but they are not the opposition are they.

well Durham dismissed Durham Uni for 18 - I expect Yorkshires bowlers to be aiming to dismiss Leeds/Bradford for a lower score.

Later in the month, Leeds/Bradford play Sussex at Weetwood which will be the first first class match at Weetwoods grounds. This will bring the number of first class grounds I have played on up to 5 (Acklam Park, Stockton, Hartlepool, Darlington and now Weetwood). Never expected my tally to increase!

Sorry to disappoint but the game against Sussex will not be a first class one.

I believe the above poster may be correct- I think only the first 2 fixtures played the MCCUs against county sides qualify as First Class; god knows why...

I think this is the Second XI team:

Lyth, Lees, Brophy, Ross, Rafiq, Girling, Geldart, Randhawa, Patterson, Hannon Dalby, Ashraf and Lilley.

Taken from twitter.

Sorry to disappoint you (and JG) but the article on the official site suggests otherwise

http://www.yorkshireccc....mccu-match-preview/1152

"This match is the second of three first-class fixtures of Leeds Bradford MCCU this season, the last being against Sussex at Weetwood (1-3 May) – the debut for that ground on the first-class stage."

The official site is incorrect.

Only the first 2 of each of the MCCU's matches against county teams each season have been granted first class status. The game against Sussex at Weetwood will be Leeds Bradford's 3rd county match of the season and will not, therefore, be a first class game.

The reason for this is that, traditionally, the counties field pretty much 2nd XI teams for the 3rd games as they tend to be when the county season is well and truly underway. The first two games are early season when the professionals put out much stronger teams to give their players as much pre-season practice as possible.

Maybe this should be brought to the attention of the official site. In the same way that you can't always believe everything you read in the papers, nor can you for websites. Mistakes can be made. Sorry to disappoint.
